Make The Audition Stage Your Stage!

Have you ever left an audition wishing you had done better or worrying that someone else may get the role you wanted? Do you want to learn how to break down scripts and characters and adjust your mindset and perspective to give the best audition possible? Then join Broken Leg Theater for this two and a half hour workshop led by Stephen Seals.

Mr. Seals will work with actors on audition techniques, acting methods, and text analysis as well as coaching individuals on acting and speech. During this workshop students will learn to best practices for auditioning with a prepared monologue and for cold read auditions. Students will need to prepare by memorizing monologue that is a 90 seconds or less. This workshop is open to anyone ages 12 and over and is fantastic opportunity for kids and adults to improve their auditioning skills.  There is only room for 20 students in this workshop so sign up today.

About Stephen Seals

childrens theater workshop richmond vaStephen Seals started off his professional career as a freelance actor traveling the country performing and directing theatre 24 years ago. Favorite roles include Baloo the Bear in Virginia Rep’s Jungle Book, Stewpot in South Pacific for Lincoln Amphitheatre, Ed Bishop in Floyd Collins at Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, Audrey II Voice in Little Shop of Horrors for Louisiana Lyric Opera, and the title character in Othello for Quill Theatre. Stephen has also written and directed in Richmond, as well as for Colonial Williamsburg Foundation where he currently serves as the Nation Builder character James Armistead Lafayette as well as being a Community Outreach Liaison for the Foundation. Stephen also taught theatre to youth for over ten years primarily with the School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community which also included after school classes to Richmond inner city youth and spent ten years acting, directing, stage managing, production managing and lighting designing for the Science Museum of Virginia’s Carpenter Science Theatre Company. Stephen started his time at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation ten years ago as a first person Actor Interpreter and was also a Supervisor of the unit for three years before becoming the Manager of Program Development for African American and Religion Interpretation for four years before taking his current performance position.Cost: $25.00

Basics of Achieving Effects with Lights and Sound for the Theater

This hands-on two and half hour workshop will give a great foundation to those looking into working in sound and lights design area of theater.
Students will learn how the use of lights, and sound in a play create the mood and tone for the show. Learn the basics of designing light plots, sound cues, and how to combine these to create the ambiance of the show. This workshop is for students 12 and up! Great for kids and adults wanting to get started or take their tech skills to the next level!

About Alleigh Scantling

Alleigh Scantling is the Production Assistant at The Lynn Theatre at John Tyler Community College. Ms. Scantling currently is in charge of the technical aspects of the Lynn Theatre and works with JTCC during classes, school productions, and guest productions. She has working as in stage management and technical design with CAT Theatre, Cadence Theatre and Firehouse Theatre.Cost: $25.00
