What is the cost to participate in a Broken Leg Theater production?

There is no cost to audition or perform in any of our productions.  In most cases actors are responsible for the cost of their own costumes which can be made with items found in your own home, borrowed from BLT or purchased at thrift stores for a nominal amount.

BLT offsets the cost of productions by asking each actor to participate in a fundraiser or pay an opt-out fee of $25 per person or $40 per family.  We also ask each family to donate concession items which are sold during production.  Items may include a 12 pack of soda or a box of granola bars for example.  More details are provided during performance meetings.

Is BLT only for kids?

While the majority of our actors are children and teens, we rely on adults for many of roles.  Broken Leg Theater encourages anyone interested in theater to audition and get involved.

How do I audition for a production?

Everyone is welcome to audition for our performances.  We announce auditions on our website and Facebook page.  Auditions take place in a variety of locations around Chesterfield and Midlothian on multiple days so potential actors can pick the time and place most convenient for them.

Rehearsal Schedules

We have made every attempt to respect your time and to be efficient with all rehearsal times. Often scenes and musical numbers are broken down into specific one-hour periods and a schedule is provided ahead of time.

All rehearsals are scheduled in the evening or on weekends and do not take place on school or other holidays.  Broken Leg Theater communicates with actors and their families via email and performance specific Facebook groups where parents can also ask questions.

Volunteer Opportunities

Even if you aren’t an actor, Broken Leg Theater relies on volunteers to help build and paint sets, sell tickets, develop printed programs, collect donations, work the concesion stand, and many others.  During the run of the show we need volunteers usher, help load the stage, supervise children backstage and much more.  If your child is part of a production we ask you to sign up for at least one volunteer time slot during the run of the show.

Where do BLT rehearsals and productions take place?

Broken Leg Theater is proud to be the Resident Community Theater for The Baxter Perkinson Center for the Arts, located at 11810 Centre Street in Chester, VA. Auditions and rehearsal venues will be announced well in advance and may take place at the Perkinson Center, in a Chesterfield county library, a Chesterfield County school, local churches, or other venues.

While auditions and rehearsals may take place in more than one location, all performances will be held at The Baxter Perkinson Center for the Arts.
