How do I join Broken Leg Theater?

Follow us on Facebook and on our website for announcements about our season, upcoming auditions, locations for our current shows, and ways to volunteer!

What is the cost to participate in a Broken Leg Theater production?

There is no enrollment fee to audition or perform in any of our productions.  Actors are responsible for their own costumes under the guidelines set by the costume designer for each show. At BLT we try to keep the cost of costumes affordable so most items can be found around the house and at local thrift stores. At times there may be specific pieces that actors are asked to purchase for certain shows, and at times BLT will provide special accessories.

BLT offsets the cost of productions by asking each actor to participate in an ad sales fundraiser or pay an opt-out fee of $30 per actor or $50 per family.  We also ask each actor or family to donate $10 toward stocking our concessions, which are sold during performances.  More details are provided during performance meetings.

Is BLT only for kids?

While the majority of our actors are children and teens, we rely on adult actors for our mixed cast musicals and plays. Occasionally BLT will produce shows with an adult only cast. Broken Leg Theater encourages anyone who is interested in theater to audition and get involved.

How do I audition for a production?

Everyone is welcome to audition for our performances.  We announce auditions on our website and Facebook page.  Auditions take place in a variety of locations around Chesterfield and Midlothian on multiple days so potential actors can pick the time and place most convenient for them.

Rehearsal Schedules

We make every attempt to respect your time and to be efficient with all rehearsals. Often, scenes and musical numbers are broken down into specific one-hour periods and a schedule is provided well in advance.

All rehearsals are scheduled in the evening or on weekends and do not take place on school or other holidays.  Broken Leg Theater communicates with actors and their families via email and performance-specific Facebook groups.

Where do BLT rehearsals and productions take place?

Broken Leg Theater is proud to be in partnership with The Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education, located at 11810 Centre Street in Chester, VA. Auditions, rehearsal venues, and shows will be announced well in advance and may take place at the Perkinson Center, in a Chesterfield county library, a Chesterfield County school, local churches, or other venues.

Fall and winter shows will be held at Chesterfield County Public Schools and the spring show will be held at The Perkinson Center.

Volunteer Opportunities

Even if you aren’t an actor, Broken Leg Theater relies on volunteers to help build and paint sets, sell tickets, develop printed programs, collect donations, work the concession stand, and many other tasks.  During the run of the show we need volunteers to help usher, work front of house, supervise children backstage and much more.  Each actor is responsible for making sure that two volunteer slots per production are fulfilled, and anyone else that simply wishes to volunteer is always welcome.

Financial concerns?

Broken Leg Theater maintains reserves for actors or their families that are experiencing financial hardships and wish to participate in BLT productions and programs. We foster the heartfelt belief that nothing should stand in the way of following your dreams. To apply for financial assistance with costumes, opt-out/concessions forgiveness, and other approved costs of participation with BLT, please submit a request here or contact any Board Member.
